Blanca joined Kinross in 2011 and has been recognized for her contributions to making a lasting impact both at work and in the broader community by creating positive social benefits to improve the overall well-being of our employees and stakeholders.
In her role as a Health and Safety Technical Assistant, Blanca is responsible for accurately tracking employee training courses to ensure all employees receive credit for their certifications. She also leads the employee rewards program, ensuring all employees are recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments.
In addition to her day-to-day tasks, Blan helps support the public mine site tours, building on our commitment to building trust and transparency with stakeholders. These tours are an opportunity to give our neighbours a first-hand look into our operations and meet the people behind Kinross Round Mountain, as well as highlight our ongoing environmental efforts, sparking the interest of the next generation of miners.
Outside of her role at Round Mountain, Blanca has actively participated in the community through volunteer and charitable initiatives. In the past, she and her husband have taught youth karate, and she assisted with free self-defense classes to empower individuals with valuable, lifelong skills for safety and well-being. She also spearheaded fitness events and fundraisers, such as the ‘Tough Miner’ competition, which encouraged friendly competition while raising proceeds for local charities to make a difference in the community.
“Blanca consistently demonstrates what it means to be a team player. She lives and breathes the value of Outstanding Corporate Citizenship and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award. She is the perfect example of living our Company values,” said Darrell McMillan, Health and Safety General Supervisor, Round Mountain.
