Josh joined Kinross in 2015 in the Mine Operations department where he acquired wide-ranging knowledge and skills for two years, before serving in the Technical Services Department for six,  that inspired him to develop new ideas, leading him to become a part of the Continuous Improvement (CI) team in 2023. Josh’s innovative suggestions created opportunities for departments to work more safely and efficiently and led to him being promoted to CI Supervisor in July 2025.

Josh’s contributions to the CI team have not only been effective from an operations and safety perspective, but also positively impacted  Kinross Alaska and how we interact with the community. Josh led the implementation of the Fort Knox bussing program that provides employees with a safe, reliable and convenient alternative to driving to work by providing transportation from town to the mine site. This initiative not only reduces our carbon footprint, but fills a commitment gap for the neighbours of the mine by reducing high volumes of traffic in the Fox community.

Josh was committed to the project’s success and set up a ‘bussing hotline’ for employees to provide comments on the initiative in its early stages to collect feedback and address issues. He personally addressed feedback, including facilitating the purchase and installation of additional lighting at the bus parking lot, providing a safe environment for employees. He also ensured a bull rail was installed in the lot to prevent fuel from freezing in employee vehicles during cold snaps. As a result, we have seen a significant increase in employees bussing to work, and received positive feedback from local stakeholders.

In addition to the bussing program, Josh is the largest user of the global innovation fund, using approximately $2M to fund and spearhead projects that will deliver significant cost savings to help build stronger, more sustainable operations for Kinross Alaska.

“Josh is the unofficial ‘Chief Morale Officer’ at Kinross Alaska for his ability to uplift and inspire those around him. His impact is measured not only in dollars saved and projects delivered, but also in the stronger, safer and more connected community he helps create every day.”
