Sean joined Kinross in September 2023, and quickly became a valuable asset to the Great Bear team due to his outstanding performance, initiative and demonstrable commitment to bringing success to the project.
As a core cutter, Sean plays a critical role in the exploration and resource definition phases of the project. His dedication, strong work ethic, and keen attention to detail ensure that he carries out one of the most crucial steps in the core sampling process with precision and consistency.
Sean is responsible for halving the drill core and bagging the samples—marking the final and most integral step before samples are sent to the assay lab. In 2024 alone, Sean processed approximately 16,210 metres of core, the highest cutting metreage achieved onsite. Throughout, he maintained a strong focus on safety and efficiency, contributing to improved assay turnaround times.
What truly sets Sean apart, however, is his "above and beyond" attitude. In addition to his core responsibilities, Sean consistently invests his time and energy into improving workflows and enhancing the workplace environment. His proactive mindset and sincere commitment to the success of the project have been clearly evident throughout this high-activity year.
During a period of intense exploration, with a continuous flow of core through the core facility, Sean’s genuine engagement and diligence have delivered measurable time and cost savings. His contributions have not only improved operations but also elevated the overall performance of the team.
In addition to Sean’s high volume of work, his impact extends beyond the core shack. He is always willing to lend a hand across all departments and is relied upon as a go-to team member and support system at Great Bear.
“Sean stands out for his performance in the core shack, but when you look deeper he really is someone who branches out across the whole organization and embodies our corporate values in so many ways. He has been fully engaged since day one, and continues to make a positive impact at Great Bear each day.”
