Mamadou joined Kinross in 2010 and has become a key member of the CIL plant through his proactive approach to safety, fostering high performance, continuous learning and knowledge-sharing within his team.
As a seasoned mechanic in the CIL plant, Mamadou is often called upon to support new employees during their onboarding, and provides hands-on training during daily and weekly inspections to ensure they are following safety standards and correct procedures from day one. His knowledge and experience make him a go-to resource and mentor for new employees who rely on his instruction to succeed in their new roles in the plant.
In addition to his role as a mentor, Mamadou is relied on for his commitment to preventative maintenance, undertaking regular equipment inspections to maximize efficiency and maintaining a safe work environment. In 2024, he was awarded ‘Best Inspector at the Plant’ for his exceptional skills and acute attention to detail by identifying critical defects in the oxygen plant’s purge valves which resulted in additional gold recoveries, earning him the prestigious ‘One Tasiast Award’.
Mamadou was also recognized for his proactive safety practices and responsible behaviours in 2022 when he prevented production and environmental issues during a sulfate shortage which earned him the Safety Champion Award at Tasiast.
