La Coipa, Atacama Region

Kinross acquired 100% interest in the La Coipa mine, located in the Atacama region in Chile, in 2007. In March 2022, Kinross announced that the mine poured its first gold bar after restarting operations following a suspension of activities in October 2013.

La Coipa refurbished the existing process plant, camp and other infrastructure, as well as the mine fleet from Kinross’ Maricunga operation, which has been placed on care and maintenance.

At year-end 2021, Kinross increased La Coipa’s expected life of mine production by 45% to approximately 1 million Au eq. oz. due to the addition of the Puren pit into the project and optimization of the Phase 7 mine plan.

Kinross continues to explore opportunities to extend mine life at La Coipa, including incorporating an additional pushback at Puren and other adjacent pits. Permitting work to extend mine life is ongoing.

The Company has also signed a power purchase agreement to supply La Coipa with 100% renewable power to meet its power needs, in line with the Company’s GHG reduction strategy.

In Q3 2025, La Coipa received the ISO 50001 certification for its energy management systems after the completion of a two-stage audit that confirmed compliance. ISO 50001 is an internationally recognized voluntary standard that gives organizations a structured framework to manage energy and integrates energy efficiency into management practices.
