In
2019, Kinross acquired Chulbatkan – a high-grade, open-pit,
heap leach development project in Russia’s Far East.
In
March, Kinross representatives visited communities of the Polina Osipenko
District, located near Chulbatkan. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this was
Kinross’ first visit to the communities this year.
The
group had a packed schedule, meeting with the heads of the Udinsk, Kherpuchi
and Oglongi villages, visiting the local school, hospital in Kherpuchi and
aquaculture farm in Udinsk, and a power plant located in Oglongi. The group
later traveled to Chulbatkan with community leaders for a site tour to share the
progress of the project.
This visit was a good opportunity to meet with stakeholders and discuss further development of a relationship between Kinross and our host community based on trust and mutual respect.
