In
2020, Kinross Brasil made several changes to their Integrar program, in an
effort to continue reaching a large audience in the Paracatu community while prioritizing
safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At
the start of the pandemic, the team began searching for ways to maintain
programming from a distance. They decided to go virtual, creating the website www.integrarcontracovid.com.br that connects users with
various programs and initiatives, educational seminars and information centres
on COVID-19. The program also aimed to raise awareness on domestic violence and
mental health during isolation.
Over the course of the year, the program reached more than 13,000 people, with support from 586 institutions and government agencies. The virtual program included an educational radio station for students that produced 75 installments with over 400 participants from the school system and Casa Kinross produced approximately 40 educational videos related to the four core pillars of the Integrar program.
As a
result of Kinross’ efforts during COVID-19, the team received the Marco Maciel
Award for ‘Best Social Responsibility Initiative’ – placing first out of six
nominees. This Award recognizes and gives visibility to Good Practices in
Institutional and Governmental Relations and aims to reward ethical and
transparent actions in the public-private relationship.
“Regardless
of the challenges we faced in 2020, our team came together to make a difference
in our communities,” said Ana Cunha, Director, Government Relations
and Social Responsibility, Paracatu. “This year’s success reinforces Kinross’ commitment to
social responsibility and generating change in the areas where we operate.”
The Integrar program launched in 2011 with a mission to positively impact the community of Paracatu by focusing on four main pillars: Education, Culture, Environment and Generation of Work and Income.
