Kinross Tasiast is proud to announce a significant milestone for the operation and Mauritania with the addition of the Hitachi EX8000 – the largest hydraulic excavator in-country – to its fleet!
The Hitachi EX8000 is the largest hydraulic excavator in the EX-7 series, designed to deliver maximum production in ultra-large mining operations. Weighing over 800 tonnes and standing at nearly 10 metres tall, the machine is equipped with a 40 m³ bucket and capacity for double-sided loading to support higher mining rates while reducing load times and truck queuing.
In order to support the use of this advanced equipment, Kinross Tasiast provided specialized training to a team of 21 mechanics and 10 operators on site, ensuring reliable operations and driving ongoing productivity improvements across the site.
To celebrate the addition of the new machinery to Kinross’ fleet, a commemorative ceremony was held at Tasiast where a brief demonstration of the excavator’s immense scale and precision was held for employees. At the conclusion of the demonstration, Vladimir Shepel, Mobile Equipment Mechanic Manager,Tasiast, thanked all teams who brought this milestone to life through strong collaboration and teamwork across several departments.
The event concluded with a dinner hosted by Moussa Hamda, Mobile Equipment Mechanic Superintendent, Tasiast, that included traditional dishes and Méchoui to celebrate the accomplishments of the team and Tasiast’s future.
