This spring, Kinross Brazil furthered their commitment to investing in healthcare and improving resources in the communities where we operate with a US$2 million ($R 10 million) investment in the Municipal Hospital of Paracatu.
The investment will support the renovation and expansion of the Surgical Centre of the hospital by increasing the number of operating rooms, and creating new, post-operative recovery rooms, significantly improving surgical capacity, patient comfort and access to care. In addition, the Sterile Material Centre will receive a redesign to meet best-in-class technical standards to ensure greater efficiency, safety and reliability for healthcare professionals and patients.
The investment was announced during a commemorative ceremony held at the hospital attended by hospital staff, representatives from Kinross Paracatu and members of City Hall and the Health Department who have partnered with Kinross to support the hospital renovation.
“The reconstruction and expansion of our surgical block will transform the Municipal Hospital of Paracatu, reducing surgery backlogs, and aligning with standards held by the best hospitals in Brazil,” said the Mayor of Paracatu, Igor Santos. “We are glad to see the benefits the city of Paracatu has received from the partnership between Kinross Gold and City Hall, and thank them for their support in transforming healthcare in our community.”
Kinross Paracatu has partnered with the Municipal Hospital since 2024 to provide financial support, strengthening the quality of healthcare in the region. Since the partnership began, Kinross has invested approximately US$4 million in infrastructure through a two-phase modernization and expansion program that has delivered a new Emergency Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit. These have enabled the hospital to increase its ability to respond to medical emergencies while creating safer, more effective conditions for healthcare professionals
