This summer, Paul Rollinson, CEO, Kinross Gold, Geoff Gold, President, Kinross Gold, Eric Lamontagne, Sr. Advisor, Canada Projects, and Ian Russell, Site Manager, Great Bear, hosted our First Nation partners including Chief Bill Petiquan of the Wabauskang First Nation and Chief Clifford Bull from the Lac Seul First Nation on a two-day fishing trip also attended by members of the community, band council, Shared Spirits, and the Great Bear team.
This year marked the fourth annual edition of the fishing trip, which aims to cultivate the positive relationships we have built with our First Nations partners by prioritizing trust, regular engagement and collaboration.
The first day of the trip kicked off on the water where attendees were split up into small groups and escorted by local fishing guides in search of two of the most popular fish to catch on Red Lake – the walleye and northern pike. After a successful day on the water, the group headed to a local restaurant to share a meal and discuss highlights of the day. On the second day, the guides hosted the group for a traditional Red Lake ‘fish-fry’ lunch which was a high point for many on the trip.
The visit offered an opportunity for participants to reflect on our shared commitment to maintaining an ongoing partnership built on trust, respect and friendship.
“At Great Bear, we are always pleased to host our partners and friends from Lac Seul and Wabauskang First Nations, while at the same time getting a chance to showcase the beautiful area we live in,” said Ian. “A fishing trip on Red Lake is a great way to celebrate our relationship, and all the work we are doing together.”
