Exploration

Kinross’ exploration philosophy is simple – replace and grow reserves. We aim to achieve this annual goal through exploration programs at our existing operations and in the regions where we currently operate, through our joint venture relationships or by injecting funds into junior exploration companies and forming strategic partnerships.

Kinross has an impressive track record of reserve growth over the last five years averaging a compound annual growth rate of 37%.

In order to continue that growth momentum, Kinross expects to spend $44 million on exploration in 2007, a 12% increase over 2006. Spending will be focused on four distinct areas and will be distributed as follows:

Kinross Operations
Focus on exploration activities at Fort Knox, Round Mountain and Kettle River/Buckhorn
  Joint Venture Operations
Opportunities at the Porcupine joint venture and La Coipa
  Project Exploration
Advance and upgrade Kinross’ project portfolio with increased district presence in Chile, Brazil, Nevada, Alaska and Russia
  Generative Exploration
Add a new advanced project or district which meets our portfolio criteria

  Business Development
Acquire properties which meet our strict acquisition criteria and compliment our current portfolio
