Timmins

In December 1999, Kinross Gold Corporation acquired all of the Timmins Gold Camp properties that were held by Royal Oak Mines prior to their filing for bankruptcy. These properties were generally in a state of abandonment at the time of acquisition and progressive rehabilitation work was required as part of an agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

Although management of these properties is now part of the Porcupine Joint Venture, operated by Placer Dome since 2002, the programs and activities initiated by Kinross to address these “legacy” sites are an excellent example of the corporate commitment of Kinross to innovative, practical approaches to mined land restoration. Additional information is provided in the links shown on the left.
