Corporate Commitments

United Nations Global Compact
  • In 2010, Kinross became a participant to the United Nations Global Compact - the world's largest corporate responsibility initiative with over 6,500 business and non-business participants across 135 countries.
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
  • Kinross endorses the Principles and Criteria of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Our operations in Ghana and Mauritania report into those countries' reporting systems, which have been determined by EITI to be fully compliant with the Principles and Criteria.
International Cyanide Management Code
  • Kinross is a signatory to the International Cyanide Management Code for the Manufacture, Transport, and Use of Cyanide in the Production of Gold.

    The Cyanide Code is voluntary program, sponsored by gold mining companies, cyanide manufacturers, and cyanide transporters. The Cyanide Code focuses on the safe management of cyanide at gold mining operations, and during manufacturing and transport. The objective of the Cyanide Code is to improve the management of cyanide used in gold mining and assist in the protection of human health and the reduction of environmental impacts. We were the first mining company to have its own transportation group certified in the code, and the first company to achieve certification in Russia. Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
  • Kinross supports the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and has implemented a Human Rights Adherence and Verification Program (HRA & VP). The program helps ensure that all security personnel, as well as key site management, understand and are consistently compliant with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. It provides guidance to ensure that each location has robust systems for allegation reporting and verification, investigation and resolution, monitoring investigations conducted by public officials and other essential elements of security oversight. Training is conducted on an annual basis.
Carbon Disclosure Project
  • Since 2006, Kinross has disclosed its carbon emissions within the CDP framework. Our reports can be found here.
