At Kinross, outstanding corporate citizenship is a core value. These 10 principles define what “doing the right thing” means to us and are central to how we conduct our business.
Principle 4: We exercise utmost vigilance in protecting the environment and seek ways to minimize our environmental footprint wherever we operate. We will always meet and, where possible, exceed regulatory requirements in our environmental performance.
Environmental Stewardship
We strive to minimize our environmental footprint wherever
we work - a principle that is fundamental to our corporate Environmental Policy and reinforced by the Charter
of the Board's Corporate Responsibility Committee.
Our company-wide Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Management
System is modeled on the global ISO14001 standard for environment.
The management system provides the structure, guidelines and
standards through which we strive for continuous improvement in key
performance areas including air quality, water management,
reclamation and biodiversity. From exploration to reclamation, our
management system sets targets and performance standards that all
of our operations worldwide are expected to meet. A comprehensive
audit program plays a critical role in assessing our performance
against the management system. Sound environmental management and
performance and continuous improvement are key priorities at every
operation. Environmental protection is the responsibility of every
Kinross employee.
