Purpose of Role: The Supply Chain Specialist (SCS) supports the KRO supply chain department and will report to the Superintendent of Supply Chain. Among his/her duties and responsibilities is to manage the supply chain system and operations, including cost, quality, delivery, negotiations, and material flow. The SCS will ensure service and operating standards are met (internally and externally). The SCS will also take an active role in the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in supply chain.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
1. Daily Management of Supply Chain Process
a) Lead and support purchasing process, including RFQs, evaluation
of proposals, negotiations of terms, and business award
b) Researches information to support decision making and improve
processes, technologies or methodologies
c) Execute material requisitions to support production plans in
line with MRP, reorder point, safety stock, and manually derived
requirements
d) Contributes to the development of policies and practices in
within purchasing and logistics that contribute to a unified
business platform that is scalable, transferable to other
functional areas, and adds value for key stakeholders
2. Manages Vendor Relations and the Execution of Vendor
Contracts
e) Lead and facilitate supplier discussions to support material
flow, projects, and escalations
f) Lead and support efforts to reduce supplier cost, leadtimes, and
inventory
g) Lead and support contract creation and execution for key
supplier relationships
h) Expedite material to ensure a sense of urgency and best possible
delivery dates are achieved
i) Drive supplier accountability, identify improvement
opportunities, and escalate swiftly
j) Expands bidders list by sourcing new suppliers, checking
references, and submitting bidding list
k) Monitor supplier performance, identify improvement
opportunities, and drive escalations
l) Research and analyze commodity trends impacting material cost
and availability
m) Identify and develop new sources of supply when existing sources
are inadequate
3. Supervises Warehouse Processes
n) Supervises the day-to-day activities of the warehouse, including
issues related to material logistics and expediting, storage and
inventory control maintenance, and / or property utilization in
accordance with mining operations, corporate and site policies,
procedures, and regulations
o) Lead month-end close activities, including inventory
troubleshooting and adjustments
p) Lead cycle counts and inventory management activities including
obsolete material disposal, ABC classification, mobility analysis,
etc.
q) Responsible for warehouse scratch rates, directing warehouse
personnel regarding out-of-stock materials, receiving errors,
selecting errors and warehouse slotting of products
r) Collects, approves and inputs timecards to monitor overtime,
absence, and attendance
4. Supports and Leads Continuous Improvement within
Supply Chain
s) Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written
materials related to technical issues, programs or systems
t) Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or
technical knowledge and skill set
u) Collaborates with senior management to identify and analyze
business requirements and the implications for the team; identifies
gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
v) Lead and support development and implementation of Supplier Risk
Management Plans
w) Lead Continues Improvement plans in the Supply Chain department,
such as 5s deployment and Lean Six Sigma projects
x) Other duties as required

at all times while in production environment. Is alert and
observes, corrects and reports unsafe conditions. Follows operating
procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements.
Scope of Responsibility & Complexity
Work is complex and performed under limited direction. Problem
resolution is within established guidelines and procedures,
requiring the use of judgment to determine which of many methods
are applicable in any given situation. Seeks assistance from others
when dealing with unfamiliar or problem situations. Proceeds on own
initiative but supervisor is available to provide direction in the
amendment / development of new practices and procedures. Work is
reviewed for attainment of objectives, adherence to policies,
procedures, and timelines.
Minimum Qualifications & Skill
Requirements
- BA or BSc in business or engineering or equivalent work
experience (MBA with Supply Chain emphasis preferred)
- Additional specialized education of up to 2 years
- Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area
of expertise
- NAPM certification desired
- 2 - 3 years of related work experience
- Ability to use computerized purchasing and materials management
systems and standard office equipment
- Complete understanding of area of expertise
- Previous supervisory experience
Additional Qualifications & Skill
Requirements
- In-depth understanding of Kinross' processes a definite
asset
- Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
- Ability to learn quickly
- Advanced Level of Excel with abilities in VBA (Excel programming)
is desirable
- Experience working with database and business intelligence tools,
ERP, and data mining
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the
physical demands sheets
- Ability to speak a second language to assist with global process
standardization and improvements a definite asset
