Overview of Role: This position is based in Reno, Nevada and reports to the Assistant Regional Controller. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating regional activities for US operations related to financial analysis; statistical and financial reporting; and the implementation and ongoing compliance of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists with the development of training courses on
various technical matters
- Works with business process owners and internal/external auditors
to evaluate control deficiencies, identify issues, establish action
plans and monitor remediation on a timely basis
- Applies quantitative methods and financial concepts to internal
operating procedures
- Independently handles quantitative analysis for statistical and
financial reporting
- Researches information to support decision making and improve
processes, technologies or methodologies, including development of
financial tools and reports
- Prepares account research and reconciliations
- Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written
materials related to technical financial issues, programs or
systems
- Keeps on top of trends related to financial and data analysis and
incorporates this information into work assignments
- Assists in the analysis of financial data and extracts and
reports on relevant information
- Compares and analyzes financial variances as compared to required
period
- Occasionally conducts technical accounting research including
IFRS and US GAAP differences
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- University graduation or diploma with accounting
degree
- At least 5-7 years of related work experience
- Must be able to travel 10 to 20 %
- Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred but not
required
- Previous public accounting experience preferred
- CPA preferred but not required
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred),
Essbase database and consolidation software
- Proficient in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
Outlook and etc)
- Knowledge and understanding in interpreting complex laws, rules,
regulations, policies and guidelines
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with mining sites, corporate office, local management and
subordinate staff
