Purpose of Role: To provide complex technical support to a department, team, or process. To follow established policies, practices, and procedures when completing work assignments. To provide work direction to a mill operations crew.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties

1. To administer a system, program, or process in mill operation

a. Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to mill operation

b. Oversees operations and related support systems at the mill

c. Answers queries and handles requests related to mill operation, which includes problem solving and judgement

d. Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to mill operation, while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches

e. Escalates issues requiring knowledge about the broader business impact of decisions. Works with mentor as needed

f. Prepares reports; monitors and completes all production and personnel records

g. Assists with special projects related to mill operation

h. Provides analysis of work outcomes with guidance from immediate supervisor and / or a mentor

i. Supervises training and may personally conduct training and employee development to less experienced employees on operating standards, procedures, and methods

j. Generates work orders for repair or modification of operations equipment. In emergencies, off shifts, or as directed, performs or supervises completion of minor repairs

k. Monitors work areas on an ongoing basis to ensure a safe and cost efficient operation

l. Conducts interviews and employee selection

m. Coordinates with other Mill Operations Supervisors on mill issues

n. Other duties as required


2. To provide technical support and customer service related to mill operation

a. Addresses queries and resolves issues for internal customers while ensuring service standards are met

b. Ensures internal customers comply with company policy, procedures, and regulations in mill operation

c. Provides training to internal customers as needed

d. Prepares communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to mill operation

e. Communicates with other department supervisors that support mill activities (i.e., maintenance, warehousing, crusher, mine, etc.)


3. To provide work direction to a work unit / group

a. Directs the activities of a mill operation team, including defining and delegating work assignments

b. Acts as a communication linchpin with the team and models the organization's values

c. Contributes to the development and revision of policies and procedures for the work unit / team

Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations. Wears PPE at all times while in the production environment. Is alert and observes, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions. Follows operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements.



Scope of Responsibility & Complexity
Works independently under general direction. Work is complex and involves non-routine and advanced technical assignments. Outcomes are reviewed for attainment of objectives, adherence to policies, and effectiveness of results. Problem resolution involves using judgment to select and interpret information and handle deviations from standard methods and practices. Makes decisions governed by general policy. Assistance for unusual situations is provided. May supervise or direct the work of others.



Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements

- College or technical training equivalent to 2 years of study

- Partial completion of formal professional certification or designation in appropriate area of expertise

- 8 - 10 years of related work experience is required including a minimum of two years mill operations crew experience



Additional Qualifications & Skill Requirements

- In-depth understanding of Kinross' processes a definite asset

- Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred

- Ability to learn quickly

- General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions

- Good working knowledge and skills with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs
